World Cup 2022 Results

Well done to the six of you that predicted an Argentina vs France final, and the four that also predicted an Argentina win! But most of all, congratulations to Kelly ‘the Octopus’ Davies for a second jackpot win – £375 is on the way!

Special mentions: although ultimately not enough, Shelley scored the most points in the knockout rounds and was the only person to predict Croatia’s appearance in the semis. On the other side of the coin, Joe ‘the Sultan’ Snell, Matt ‘Nipsey’ Russell and Simon ‘Gedge like hedge but with a G’ were all out after the Quarter Finals.

Here’s the final leaderboard (or follow this link to the Google Sheet):

Hope to see you all back here in summer 2024!

Group Stage – Results

Slightly delayed but the results are here! Kudos to “Creepy Uncle” Neil B who claims the lead at the halfway stage. £127 on its way! Hard luck to Rowdy (again) & Matt “MTH” the Head who both also finished on 23 points but lost out on the tiebreaker.

Full results are below (or, if you prefer a spreadsheet view, click here).

If the box is blue, you scored two points for getting it exactly right. If the box is gold, you scored one point for correctly predicting that a team would get out of their group. Otherwise, you scored zilch.

Group Stage Predictions

The prize fund is a record £510, so the overall winner will take home £383 and whoever is in the lead after the Group Stages will win £127!

To recap, you score a point for each team you correctly predicted to qualify for the Knockout Stages, and a bonus point if you correctly predicted their finishing position in their group (1st or 2nd). If there’s a tie for the lead, the tiebreaker (goals scored) will come into play.

Big AlFree, (former champ) Toni & Uncle Andy have gone for exactly the same picks, but remarkably the other 48 entries are unique.

Good luck!

So near, yet so far.

Amidst the hurt of another penalty shootout defeat for England, we have a winner: well done to Rohit “Rowdy” Rao who takes home the £300 first prize.

Group Stage winner Jack Snell finishes in 20th place, and wooden spoon goes to Rob Percy and Aunty Katy (who managed to get just 3 results right!)

See you for Christmas in Qatar 2022!

Knockout Stage Predictions

Down to the business end of the tournament and the contestants in this competition seem to fall into two categories:

(A) Optimistic patriots ready for an end to all the years of hurt

and

(B) People who think England are:

  • Not creative enough
  • Not positive enough
  • Going to go on getting bad results

You can view the full set of predictions in a Google Sheet here, or see below:
